greymatter: Wrong path…doesn’t exist on the server

  • I know there’s been a thread about workarounds etc for when the import in WP doesn’t do it, but that’s all beyond my ken at this point. I get an error that says, Wrong path, /cgi-bin/archives doesn’t exist on the server. I know it does because it’s right there. Any ideas for a “code limited” novice?

  • It should be more than just “cgi-bin/archives” – you have to give the full path to it on your server. Check the user’s manual, FAQ, instructions of your host regarding the path.

    Here’s what I have:

    Path to GM files: /public_html/cgi-bin/
    Path to GM entries: /public_html/cgi-bin/archives/

    It’s the second entry where the problem lies. It doesn’t say anything about the path to the GM files, just to the entries. The “public_html” is the full path. And I can put any path in there and it will still tell me it doesn’t exist. Now, I’m assuming since the import function is on the server I only need to insert the local path

    I still don’t think it’s enough ?? It should be something like
    /home/username/public_html/greymatter/archives
    (at least this is how mine was, it has never been installed in cgi-bin)

    You were right. I feel like such a dolt. I never knew that was the complete path. I’ve never actually had to use it. Thanks.

    Great! Don’t give up, Cybernia! You will love WordPress. Greymatter was my first blog tool once I got my own web hosting account and at the time I loved what all it could do. But time to move on. This latest incarnation of WordPress has many fabulous plugins so you can make your site whatever you want it to be, with a great deal more ease than ever.

    Oh, and since this is WordPress Backup Week, let me reiterate:

    Once you get your stuff uploaded into WordPress and get it all up and running, back your site up!! Then you can continue working on fine tuning it and grabbing plugins. But again, develop the habit of backing it up! Especially after any kind of overhauling!
