Permalinks Problem

  • Hi,
    I am runnin WP 1.5 and have enabled permalinks with /index.php/%postname%/ I have to use /index.php as I simply get 404 if I don’t.

    My problem is that in the sidebar the ‘Pages’ I’ve created are listed but now they are only visible in the index page and the list disappears on every other page. Also, ‘sub’ pages now generate an error in the Pages list

  • Please read Using Permalinks. In short, using %postname% is a really bad idea:

    Note on using only %postname%
    If you use postname as the only element in your permalinks to create a structure such as myblog.com/post-title, the rewrite rules may make it impossible to access pages such as your stylesheet (which has a similar format) or the wp-admin folder. It’s best to include some numeric data (e.g. the post ID or date) in the permalink to prevent this from happening. Additionally, WordPress v1.2.x requires the use of a date structure in order for some features, such as the calendar, to function properly. /archives/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ is always a good start.

    but I’ve read Using Permalinks and tried just about everything. I manage to get every page to load with clean URLs e.g. about-me>/a> etc.) However, the real problem is that the the list of links to static ‘Pages’ in the sidebar (WP 1.5 Kubrick) only appears on the index.php page and fails to show on any other page. In addition to this ‘sub Pages’ generate and error if I click on there link.
