    Thanks in advance!

I’m posting this in a new thread due to the thread not updating itself when I posted it there, despite the thread being open. Odd…

Anywho, I have a wordpress site that is installed into the root of the webserver. I have some static HTML pages I would like to upload. So, I have created a folder for the blog and performed a migration per the support documents.

What follows is my issue, and I deeply appreciate everyone’s help.

    Many thanks!

Okay, here is what I deduced today after starting fresh with a faux blog, and using 000webhost as the lab-room.

Everything runs perfect except image file locations. After migration of files, I changed the URL’s WP uses for core files (all of this per the migration document), and updated permalinks to your example above. Pages are retained, posts, comments, etc… Only image files are gone.

After viewing the source, they are indeed pointing to the old wp-content location in the root of the file server. So just as a test, I copied the existing wp-content foler, and uploaded it to the root (where my static HTML files are) and gave it a go. Voila! All image files can be seen.

Post-migration, I uploaded new images, and it saved them in the new folder IE: /blog/wp-content.

Is it okay to keep the wp-content (or at least honing it down to the image folder/files) in the root of the webserver? I only ask because I have over 1,000 images (I’m pretty sure), and I would hate to have to go into the database, one by one, and change their locations if I can simply keep the old images in a folder in the root.

    Again, many, many thanks!

put the folder back – this will only cause you headaches in the future
as you’ve seen the images get hard-coded
just use this plugin to do a simple search and replace with old image url’s to new

    Awesome! Thanks, Samual!

I’ll remove the folder, give the plugin a try and report back.

    Many thanks!

    Samual,

I just installed the plugin and ran a search for img, src=img, etc… and could not get any results that actually dealt with my pictures. I also tried searching for the full path to the images (where it points before migration). Am I using the wrong search strings. Since it is just images I’m trying to change, what would I type?

I am a complete newb when it comes to databases. Any help would be deeply apprecaited.

    Many, many thanks!

    Samual,

I gave Blue Velvet’s plugin (URL-Updater) a try and it worked very well for me. It updated all of my image links with no issue. Yay! Are you familiar with this plugin? Are there any downsides that you are aware of?

I deeply appreciate your help, man. I really was between a rock and a hard place with this migration. Glad this is over.

This was carried out in a lab environment. Should I have any further concerns or issues, I’ll keep you updated.

    Thanks!

I just wanted to let you know that I finished the migration of the wordpress site and it went well! Thanks to search and replace.

    Again, many thanks, my friend!
