Plugin Updates

I’d like to know if anyone knows how to update plugins from a file on a hard drive opposed to the automatic updates of plugins. It’s been not updating correctly automatically but I have the file I need, but don’t want to delete it and loose my settings. My blog is 49ers Shop. Any help would be appreciated.
