[Plugin: WP Super Cache] Problem with step 8 of installation instructions

I network activated SuperCache, turned it on in settings, added step 7 mod rewrite rules to htacces and now I am looking for htaccess in the cache directory in wp content and it doesn’t exist so i try to add it according to the instructions “After you have enabled the plugin, look for the file “wp-content/cache/.htaccess”. ” but is says that the directory already exists. I can’t see the directory via ftp and I can’t add it.
