Excerpt field not visible for new post

  • I’m using the most recent version of wordpress.

    When I make a new post, the Excerpt field is not visible. However, after I make a post then go back and edit it, the field is there.

    I want to be able to create the excerpt when I am making the post. Anyone know why its doing this?
