puttink links and excerpts on static page

  • Hi –

    I love the look of the system. I’ve searched everywhere, and can’t find an answer to this:

    I have a static index page – WP is being integrated as part of a much bigger site.

    I want to put the title and excerpts of the last 5 entries on the static page. what code do i need to input?

    Also, is there a way to integrate the blog with the look and feel of my site, or does it have to be set up with a theme?

    I know these may be simple questions, but I’m under the gun to get this site finished.
