  • ‘content shifting’ and change of font size is intended by the ‘responsive structure’ css in style.css

    the way you have setup the child themes, by not importing the stylesheet from the parent theme, simply try to remove the /* =Responsive Structure section from style.css in your themes (make sure to leave the /* =Print section).

    I don’t think so, at least not with your setup and with a fixed width of the theme.
