• I run a multi-user blog and want to redesign it so that only (lengthy) excerpts run on the main page. No problem there. But what I’d like is to have the “read more” link function as a switch to make the remainder of the post appear in that spot (rather than taking the reader to a single post page). In functional terms, it should work as though the <!--more--> tag were inserted automatically into all posts at a given point and the “read more right here” plugin were operating.

I’ve found this conversation: WordPress ? Support ? how can i show excerpt and collapsible post?. But I wonder if anyone has an alternative solution or suggestion. Is there a way, for instance, to insert the <!--more--> tag into all posts at a chosen point?

  • I believe the functionality of the read more tag is nothing more than a simple bookmark link, so it takes you to the post|bookmark location…

Thanks, SwansonPhotos. The link is helpful for the function that can replace a “read more right here” plugin. The trick will be to get the “bookmark” automatically inserted after a couple of paragraphs, for example. (I take it that the function described in the link won’t work with the_excerpt() but depends on a user having inserted the <!--more--> tag.)

I do not think any of this edits past posts…
