• I offered to pay on the last post, sorry for breaking the rules ?? I’d like to keep it open to get feedback.

How can I add “via @twittername” to the end of the message when someone shares my post? I’m using WordPress’s default sharing (JetPack), no plugins. I’d love to edit the message so I can shorten the link too instead of the long URL on Twitter, but keep the other networks the same.

So, Twitter goes from “Post name: LONG URL” to “Post name | Shortened link via @twittername”. All my other network sharing is fine.

    THANK YOU!

I just wanna make sure…. you are using a self-hosted www.ads-software.com install, with the jetpack plugin?

or a wordpress.COM site which uses jetpack for sharing?

I just have to clarify, because on .ORG jetpack IS a plugin… if you are on .COM, they have different forums at https://en.forums.wordpress.com

sorry if it seems obvious…but I don’t know what .COM looks like, and some hosts install jetpack with WP, gott apinpoint your situation

    Thanks for responding Rev Voodoo!

I’m hosting it on a different site (using .ORG) so I guess it is a plugin. I meant I wasn’t using AddThis or ShareThis. I’ve seen the “via @username” and shortened links on other .ORG blogs so I know it can be done somehow…

Although I just found out technically Jetpack uses Sharedaddy for sharing?

OK, I just wanted to make sure you are in the right place! There are a variety of plugins for sharing, each handles things differently. YOu would have to check out the twitter plugins to see how each works..

I believe my site does what you are looking for? check @wpvoodoopress if you want to see how mine are formed…

    I use STC
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/simple-twitter-connect/
To auto-post my blog posts to my twitter feed, and also put a link at the bottom of my posts for others to tweet about it

If jetpack doesn’t do what you need, check out STC or one of the other twitter plugins availabale

Thanks for the help Rev. Voodoo! STC is almost what I’m looking for – it shortens the link AND it includes my username ?? Now if only I can get it to appear with the other sharing icons instead of in its own place…. Can I replace the JetPack tweet button with STC tweet button?

For anyone interested, I ended up editing the php file to insert ‘via @username’ after the post title. so now it is “post name via @username | shortened link”. I guess that’s an okay compromise/workaround for now…

@sealed579: I went with a similar solution because I had the same problem as you. However, the next time you upgrade Jetpack, your customization will get blown away.

I’m still looking for a non-hackish way of doing something that ShareDaddy used to support back in the day.
