3.3.1 upgrade and plugin upgrades will not install

  • I’ve searched the threads and have found similar issues, but not exactly.

    When the 3.3.1 nag screen came up on the dashboard, I clicked the auto update. The process halted in the middle of the downloading zip file screen and never progressed any further. The dashboard says it is 3.3.1, but it isn’t. What’s more, now plugins, plugin updates and theme updates will not auto install either.

    Upgrade folder permission is 777, .htaccess has 755 permission in root directory and has “AddType x-mapp-php5 .php” as first line. Any ideas? This is a real pain. Been using WP for years and never encountered this.

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade via wp-admin/upgrade.php
