Media Files area is empty

I brought over my uploads folder from another wp install put that folder in a new 3.3.1 wp install, in the proper location
( inside wp-content )
but now in wp dashboard when I go to “add media” in a post and then click on “media library” there are no media files there. How do I get all my media files that are in my uploads folder to show up? Thanks.
