Category shows post not assigned to it

  • Hi,
    I am working on this brand new site
    https://www.regional-portuguese-food.com
    and I am experiencing problems with categories. I have been experimenting with navigation on three levels…page/category, sub category and tag.
    The home page offers navigation to regions via a map and the main menu.
    All other pages offer nav via the main menu and tags.

    What happens is that a test post I have created in a category turns up in a category that it was not assigned to.

    What on earth have I got wrong here?

  • category archives show posts of sub categories of the active category as well;

    what is your hierarchical category structure?

    I think I might have the solution.
    I used pages with posts for the top nav and I should have used categories.
