• Hi! Just getting ready to migrate an existing site to WP and am deciding between having Forums or Groups. This is for the site’s Community portion although will also house Assignments, Critiques, etc. So image support (inserting images from local browse or photo-sharing sites or both) is crucial and must be robust. vBulletin is sort of the gold standard on photo community sites (it’s a forum), but it’s a 3rd-party program and I was hoping to stay within the WP arena. On the photo sites that have both Forums AND Groups, one is typically not very active. And Flickr only has Groups, not Forums.

Any experience or thoughts about the Pros/Cons of Groups vs. Forums on a WP-based photo community site? I’m looking for the best way to have highly interactive discussions and image-insertion support at the same time.

    Thanks!

I would say it depends on if it will be a general photo community site discussing everything from example cameras, photo editing software etc etc… or focused on something particularly. If general then forums, if not then groups.. as I see it.

Thanks for reply, Felix! It’s really a mix: discussions but also activities. The activities are specific, e.g., “show us photos of lighthouses”. Some discussions will be more general: “suggest improvements for this site.” Any plug-in suggestions for either/both? Thanks again.
