• Hello,
I installed Relevanssi at my blog and the results are far better than earlier. Thanks a lot.
But there are some big problems that i’m not sure how to solve.

1- If you search for something at craniocamisetas.com (try “miss monster” or “einstein” for instance), the search takes far too much time to happen. Seriosly, it takes more than a minute to show the results. o.o It’s odd, since when I go to the user searches i can the search listed there in no time. It even fails to load the page sometimes.

2- There are some wordpress codes I use to create the interface that are being blocked or I don’t know what. they just don’t show up right. ‘$post->ID’ (for the timthumb image); ‘the_author_posts_link();’ and ‘the_category(‘, ‘);’ for the meta boxes; and way down at the footer of the page, the widgets for the recent or the most commented posts doens’t show up.

Can anyone help? Thanks a lot.
    ;D

How many posts you have in your database? Slowness means the search is too heavy or your server is too weak. More than a minute sounds pretty much unusable, so yeah, that’s a problem – but the searches shouldn’t take that long.

Relevanssi shouldn’t interfere with your templates, because it works completely under the hood. Do those elements work with the default WordPress search?

Can you post your search results template to a pastebin? I could take a look at it.

    Hello, msaari

I have 471 posts at my blog. It’s not that much.
But actually, the index of relevanssi is a bit odd:
    Documents in the index: 2865
    Highest post ID indexed: 9160
    Am I doing anything wrong?
Should I clean the index and try to make it again?

About the elements, yes. I deactivated relevanssi and they worked again. o.o Quite strange. I posted the code of my search page here for you to take a look:
    https://libre.ag/cranioSearch.txt

And there’s another problem too that I found out. this is the no1 search at the blog:
    no-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-results%3ano-re
    Is it googlebot?

Thanks in advance for your help. XD

Heh, you’ve got quite a few posts too many in your index. Try re-indexing, something’s odd there.

    Thread Starter hiharry

    (@hiharry)

And what would be a good number in the index?
    Aprox. 500?

471 possibly plus your category and tag counts depending upon configuration.

    Thread Starter hiharry

    (@hiharry)

Well. I did the re-indexing and it got 480 sth. But still, it takes forever to search and the other problems occur as well.
one thing that I noticed is that when I search something like “Guess who” and there’s no title with ‘guess who’ on it, it shows the images and categories and stuff. When there is a post with ‘Guess who’ in the title, everything brokes. O.o

What kind of hosting you have? Perhaps Relevanssi is just too heavy for the resources your web site has.

Oh, and that second query on your search results page may be one reason for the problems with your template. Relevanssi doesn’t have a way of knowing where it should go, so it’s probably running twice per page, which can also explain some of the slowness. Try commenting that out and see what happens.

Sorry. It’s been a long week.
So, my blog is hosted at locaweb.com. I don’t know for sure the full specs, but I’ll search for it. t’s a possivility.

About the query, I’m gonna try to rewrite the code from start. Let’s check if it works.

    hi, people

After a looooooong while without trying to make it work I started testing again. I took the second query you told me about off and cut the content to the minimum. it really didn’t make any difference.
I started to play with relevanssi settings and disabled the custom excerpts. Magically it started working again.
    Any ideas why?
    tnx

Relevanssi Premium slowness was driving me crazy, but when I disabled the custom excerpt as suggested by hiharry, it started to work as it supposed to do. And I can live without the custom excerpts.
So, what seems to make relevanssi terribly slow is the custom excerpt. Maybe this can helps msaari to spot the problem.
    cheers

Yeah, the custom excerpt code has lots of loops and particularly if your posts are long, finding the best excerpts can take some time.

Hi Mikko – I had the same issue bog me down for MONTHS until I found this post. I turned off the custom except code and well and the results returned from searches are now in 5-6 seconds vs 20+ seconds before.

It would be great if you bubbled this up to a note in the settings page that said “if you’re searches are slow as heck, try turning this option off if you’re not using it.

    (@msaari)

Yeah, building the custom excerpts can be very slow. I’ll add a note about it in the options page.
