Hi there, I am moving my blog, https://johnbentleyswriting.com from Freehostia to bluehost. I’ve used the bluehost installer to install WordPress, and it’s given me a new WordPress control panel password, but this new password doesn’t work – it will only accept the old WordPress password on the Freehostia control panel. What could be wrong? Does anyone have some kind of tutorial a newbie like me could look at?

  • johnbentleyswriting.com is currently pointing to ns1, ns2 and ns3.bluehost.com, but I believe they only use ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com. That third entry can be messing things up.

It also can take a while for DNS caches where you’re at to clear, so that is likely the reason it was still connecting you to the Freehostia control panel.

If you need to change your password on the BlueHost side and cannot resend it, try this: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Resetting_Your_Password#Through_phpMyAdmin

And I do happen to have an article I wrote when I switched my sites to bluehost, In case anything in it is of interest to you.

I wasn’t aware of the potential problems that having NS3 configured could cause. I have deleted the setting – now it’s only NS1 and NS2. The NS3 has been left blank.

I have actually managed to fix the problem since I posted this, after several long conversations with Bluehost technicians.

But thanks to everyone for your help, and
@rev. Voodoo (great name btw) I shall bookmark your article – it might come in handy one day.
