Can I add borders or margins to widgets?

  • I have tried to find this answer, and no luck so far. On my site, I am using the Weaver theme and found that I got a look I generally like by adding a darker background color to my widgets, which was easily done using the weaver options.

    BUT…

    It comes out looking wrong because all the content of the widgets, text, images, whatever bumps up right against the edges of that background. It would look great if the darker widget background fully surrounded the content of each widget, while still leaving the sidebars around that the lighter color.

    I’m a rather primitive user, so is there any simple way to do this?

    That’s how it is in IE9 and FF.

    In Weaver have you tried making adjustments in main options widget areas? Also in the style sheet .widget-area.

    Thank you for responding…… Yes, I tried finding an adjustment in the Weaver main options widgets section, which is how I got the darker color for the background of individual widgets to be different than the sidebar background color…….

    I can’t find a setting for getting the content of each widget to be surrounded by the widget background color…….

    I’m not sure how to find the right thing to do in the style sheet – I’m much to primitive a user to do things without pretty specific instructions……. Could you offer some more details?

    In your css.style look for .widget-area. Try changing padding, margins there. Make a backup of the file first. If you are successful you can put the changed style sheet in a child theme so it doesn’t get overwritten. But try changing some values and don’t worry about a child theme.

    Thank you again for helping me……. What you said didn’t quite get me there, but it got me headed in a direction that led me to another, to another……

    Final resolution was to put a snippet of code for padding into an “add css” box for the area in question in Weaver’s Main Options page…..

    Simple, of course, now that I know how…….
