• Folks,

I’m trying to back up my WordPress blog site. I logged into my site and followed these steps:

<!– This is a WordPress eXtended RSS file generated by WordPress as an export of your site. –>

<!– It contains information about your site’s posts, pages, comments, categories, and other content. –>

<!– You may use this file to transfer that content from one site to another. –>

<!– This file is not intended to serve as a complete backup of your site. –>

<!– To import this information into a WordPress site follow these steps: –>

<!– 1. Log in to that site as an administrator. –>

<!– 2. Go to Tools: Import in the WordPress admin panel. –>

<!– 3. Install the “WordPress” importer from the list. –>

    <!– 4. Activate & Run Importer. –>

<!– 5. Upload this file using the form provided on that page. –>

<!– 6. You will first be asked to map the authors in this export file to users –>

<!– on the site. For each author, you may choose to map to an –>

<!– existing user on the site or to create a new user. –>

<!– 7. WordPress will then import each of the posts, pages, comments, categories, etc. –>

<!– contained in this file into your site. –>

There is a Browse button that leads me to items on my Desktop, but there seems to be no option to save my Website or any other online files.

Can you help me with the steps I need to take to back up online material, especially my blog site?

    Thanks,
    Mustafa

  • Hi there
maybe you have to install a backup plugin.
i’m using a plugin called BackWPup, it backups database and files and it can send the backup file to you by email. It’s only one of several backup plugins available at www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins.

EZPZ One Click Backup is another good one. Just came across it yesterday. Now I use it on three sites.

    Hi Tiberius,

Many thanks for the tips! It looks like BackWPup can enable me to back up my site more easily that the other program I was trying use. (I note that EZPZ One Click isn’t compatible with Windows). I have downloaded BackWPup. Are there instructions somewhere about how to use it to back up a blog site?

    Thanks again.

Wow! Tiberius, do you know about the problems people are facing with backWPup? I bumped into this thread:

Do you know of another backup program that works better?

    Hi
never had problems with this plugin.
I also performed the restore using the backup files produced by him.

To configure a backup just go into the settings page, create a new job, accept the defaults and specify in the email address where to send the files.

    ciao
