[Plugin: WP Super Cache] Loads pages, but I get a strange 403 response on homepage

There’s nothing in this plugin that would cause a 403 error. It could be something added to your .htaccess file by that 5G plugin, and left over after you removed it.

The 403 is back there. I think this is a good proof that the 403 comes from WP Super Cache. As I said, the site loads fast and works ok, but that 403 shouldn’t be there and it’s stopping some services.

Do you have some sort of security software like mod_security on your site? Do Apache and PHP have different users? Try using PHP caching and remove the Supercache mod_rewrite rules.

Got this, it really wasn\t WP Super Cache. A parent folder had a .htaccess blocking that ??
The current .htaccess was ok, but one rule from the parent folder was inherited.

I don’t know, something is going on with wp-supercache. On a quick google search this isn’t the first report of it.

Having said that, on the single post pages I started getting 403 errors, which completely killed me with google since I get a lot of traffic organically. The plugin worked fine, until I attempted to lock down a specific blog post I was expecting a traffic spike to. After I did that all of my posts returned 403 error in the header despite the fact the page loaded fine.

I disabled wp-supercache and tried to fetch a page again as googlebot in googles webmaster tools and it nearly immediate returned a 200 result. I activate the plugin test the same url and its a 403 error

If you search google you’ll see that others are having this problem since the last version was released. I’ve had to completely abandon the plugin until I can figure out a fix because I rely on google as a major source of my traffic. I’m still mad about the visits I lost for 2 days as a result of trying to figure out the issue.

maladymg – if you tried to lock down a post make sure that the directory structure created is gone now – in the directory where WordPress is installed look for a folder with the same name as the starting folder of your url.

eg: example.com/2009/12/06/blah/ and look for a folder called “2009”. Delete it if there’s nothing in there but the other directories and an eventual index.html. That’s what lockdown does.

I found this post because I had the same error for one page (error 403 forbiden).
After looking for a long time, I discovered the problem for me.
I changed some words in the page and I could not actualise the cache.I had always the old page shown on the browser. So I decided to delete myself the files created by WP Super Cache in the root of my website(a folder with the name of my page with two files into : mypage.html and mypage.html.gz).
After I loaded again the modified page with WP Super Cache.
And I got the 403 error.
So looking in the folder created by WP Super Cache, I saw only the gz file into. I loaded this archive with my FTP, decompressed and reloaded it to get the folder completed with the 2 files.
And it was fine again!!!
