[Plugin: Events Manager] recurring events acting as single events

On my site I am using the suggested shortcode to feature upcoming events on my homepage. I have set the settings to only display future events. This works with normal events but is running into problems with recurring events.

If I have an event that occurs every friday from Jan 20th -feb 25th, i would expect event manager to only show the next upcoming date in this area. So as I’m writing this the next date for this recurring performance would be feb 24th. However it shows Jan 20th instead. The same thing is happening when I use the calendar widget.

I feel like this was not happening when I first installed event manger. It seems to only be creating one event for each of the recurring events instead of separate ones. Can someone please help.
