Method to transfer content URL?

Hi, newcomer here. I recently started playing with wordpress and was able to successfully transfer a local hosted wordpress test website to my web server. Everything transferred over fine except the contents. All the downloadable documents and photos were still pointing to the localhost server. I manually went in and edited the urls to point to the new server. I was wondering if there was an easier/quicker way of doing this. I can imagine this taking a long time if I had a lot of content.
Any help would be appreciative!
