html/visual editor p tags and br tags

I’ve had it with how this program messes with what I stick in to the editors. It needs to stop wrapping all my content in p tags. If I insert a single line break (br tag) or double line break (p tag) it needs to keep the tag in the code and it needs to display it on the site with these breaks. I understand that this behavior is probably to stop html formatting problems because not everyone has 12 years of web dev experience. AT LEAST GIVE ME A WAY TO TURN OFF THIS BEHAVIOR or get around it quickly. These are supposed to be WYSIWYG and they are not. When I see a double line break in the editor I don’t see it on the site.

There needs to be a permanent fix for this. And what I mean by a permanent fix is I don’t want to have to dig in to the php and hack the code to implement this fix. I should not have to hack through a program like this to make it just display line breaks properly.

This is just silly behavior. I have quoted out 1 more word press site and if I don’t see a permanent fix for this before I quote the next site I will not be using wordpress.
