  • Hello, I have the same problem with the Czech special characters like ě???… on filenames. Is there any way how to work with it?
There are link to older post https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-nextgen-gallery-convert-non-utf-8-filenames?replies=2 , but still no solution.
    Thank for help

I have this same problem, and it’s really frustrating. The plugin that csilverc suggested didn’t work for me, just gives an error when uploading files:

Warning: touch() [function.touch]: Unable to create file
Warning: array_key_exists() expects parameter 2 to be array, null given in ****/plugins/utf8_to_ascii/utf8_to_ascii.php on line 131 in ***/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 177

Great, it’s working. For me, there is no problem:
Wordpress 3.3.1, NextGEN Gallery 1.9.3. Apache, MySQL on Linux or Win7 x64

Interesting. It seems that for me, the filename sanitizer works for NGGallery, but breaks the wordpress media library upload (the error message on my previous post). And it works just “kind of” for NGGallery because it’s replacing the filename with a totally empty name.

Would be nice to have NextGEN Gallery use the same method for sanitizing filenames as the wordpress media library uses, because it works perfectly with weird filenames too.

At the moment it seems that I have to tell all my WP users to manually change their filenames before uploading them to NGG or I can try to fix the problem myself. Although I was trying to avoid that because it makes updating NGG a bit harder ??

    I’m using WP 3.3.1 and NGGallery 1.9.3. (php 5.3.8 / 64Bit linux).

Thanks csilverc !! This plugin solved my problem with german special characters!
