Custom Post Types and Permalink Slugs
-
The setup: For a “listings directory for a city” type of (multi)site, custom post types of ‘listings’ were setup. Example (in which ‘new-york’ is the name of the multi-site blog so don’t let that throw you off):
https://www.thedomainname.com/new-york/listings/davids-pizza-place
The problem: Client wants the ‘slug’ of CPT removed.
https://www.thedomainname.com/new-york/pizza-place
Also wants it so the custom taxonomy of the ‘listing’ from this:
https://www.thedomainname.com/new-york/listing-categories/pizza-places
to:
https://www.thedomainname.com/new-york/pizza-places
——
I realize (after research and a bit of developed common sense) that normally this thing isn’t encouraged. It was created as a CPT in the first place so we could easily assign custom meta boxes, etc.
The client has no other posts for fear of overlap, but still wondering if there is any option here other than to go back and just have these as regular ‘posts’. I’m sure if one knew about rewrites this could be done, but alas i am not such a man.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.
