• I have been following the guide on this website on setting up Postie to auto post blogs to my site by email >> https://www.mintblogger.com/2008/11/how-to-post-to-wordpress-and-blogger.html

I can get the posts appearing on my site okay but I cannot seem to use any of the following formats to get the appropriate categories assigned to the blog post

    (from the website https://www.mintblogger.com/2008/11/how-to-post-to-wordpress-and-blogger.html )

    Subject: Gen: WordPress Hacks

This subject line will assign the post to the first category Postie will find, starting from ‘Gen’. Needless to say, post title will be ‘WordPress Hacks’.

Subject: [14] [Tip] [Writ] WordPress Hacks

This subject line will assign the post to 3 categories in one go. First one is the numeric id of the category, second one is the category starting with ‘Tip’ and so on…

Subject: -14- -Tip- -Writ- WordPress Hacks

This is one more method to assign multiple categories and post title.

If I set the subject line up to be “Subject: -Horse Racing- -Free Tips- My free horse racing tips for today” then the post title will appear as

-Horse Racing- -Free Tips- My free horse racing tips for today

This is the same for any of the other 3 formats specified.

Am I missing something or is this a very old article with formats that you don’t support anymore and if so what is the best way of adding categories OR tags with Postie.

Any help would be much appreciated

    Thanks

    Rob

Just for anyone insterested or with the same problem related to Postie not parsing categories in the subject line the issue is down the the order the regular expressions that parse the subject line are carried out in – the first one matches all formats.

I fixed it for myself, made a test harness for people to test and am now using it on my site.

This article explains how to fix the Postie Categories Problem with a copy n paste of the new function at the bottom.
