Appearance – widgets – activate

  • A real newbie here! On the Appearance – widgets page I am unable to get the “Drag widgets from here to a sidebar on the right to activate them” to operate. Nothing moves. It’s as if the page was static.

    After many hours of trying, a page continues to display an unwanted sidebar with this notice:

    Primary Sidebar Area
    This theme has been designed to be used with sidebars. This message will no longer be displayed after you add at least one widget to any of the Sidebar Widget Areas using the Appearance → Widgets control panel.

    How do I activate widgets? Any advice about what I’m doing wrong would be appreciated. Thank you.
