[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Help! NextGen conflicting with other plugins!

I am having a problem with NEXTgen in the sidebar; in that it will not display any images, just the spinning timer. Have you figured anything out yet?

I am using Suffusion as my theme and on other websites that I have built with it, it’s been fine; all has worked fine. On this new build using WP 3.3.2 it’s just not working and I am wondering if that may be the route cause of the problem….?

I got mine sorted after a bit of snooping. Turns out the problem was as follows. In the settings, I had deleted the ‘width’ value, hoping that would expand the slider to automatically fill 100% of its container. Turns out that this was the problem. Might be yours too. Make sure the width and height settings have a numeric value, and if that doesn’t work, make sure there aren’t any conflicting styles that would be having the same effect. Good luck, hope this is the right fix for you.

PS – if that doesn’t do it, try setting the jQuery option to FALSE. Lots of people listed buggy behavior when used in conjunction with other plugins that were also loading jQuery.

McGuive7 Could you please let me know how to set jQuery to FALSE. Is it code or somewhere in WordPress. I am hoping it will solve my problem which also seems to be due to NextGEN not working with WordPress 3.3.2 – Thanks

Oh shoot, I’m really sorry. I submitted another bug for a different plugin, Easing Slider, and the solution I described above was for that. Apologies!

I did find a fix for NextGen though, and one that was almost impossible for me to track down. Luckily I stumbled upon a thread that happened to just mention in passing that the following could be the cause of the problem.

What ended up being my problem was that the PHP memory_limit allowance was too low. Normally, this is set by your host with a standard PHP config file that automatically gets included every time you create a new domain.

For whatever reason, NextGen (perhaps in combo with too many other plugins), was trying to use more than the allotted amount of memory. So the solution is as follow:

Create a custom PHP.ini file and up the memory_limit variable to “64M”

I’m not super savvy with this kind of stuff, but when I called my host, the guy I spoke with said this was a common problem, and had a one click install he performed for me to set it all up. He knew exactly the issue I was talking about, and the fix took all of 10 seconds.

I really hope this helps, I spent two full days tinkering with my plugins’ PHP to figure out what conflict was going on, and I thank my lucky stars that I stumbled upon this fix.

Thanks McGuive7 but as both my websites were using the same Hosting Server with the same parameters, I was fairly sure this was not my problem.

Good news is that I have SOLVED my own problem – finally.

As I had the site working as a test site under a subdomain, I decided that I should compare the test site settings (which worked) with the new site (which failed Nextgen Plugin Test).

I quickly found that in WORDPRESS > SETTINGS > GENERAL > SITE ADDRESS URL – the folder name where I have wordpress installed was missing. I inserted the folder name, clicked SAVE CHANGES and then did the a check of NEXTGEN in WORDPRESS > GALLERY > OVERVIEW > PLUGIN CHECK. Volia!!! Ticks all around so Problem fixed.

I have contact the hosting company and ask them to increase the memory_limit. Now the website work perfectly with Nextgen Gallery plugin.
