Should editing a post cause the RSS feed to generate a new ping to RSS users?

I was tweaking a photo gallery in a post last week and it took me six or seven edits of the post (published weeks before) to get the photo gallery to work correctly.

Shortly after I received an email from an RSS subscriber saying that his Outlook RSS reader received a new RSS feed entry for each one of my edits.

Is this what should be happening? I’ve searched high and low for a solution and can’t find one.
