First of all, apologies for bothering you with another access token question. My issue is similar to one that was brought up in another post — the same access token is being generated over and over, and it’s very short term. I’ve tried switching to different browsers, turning on private browsing, etc. with no luck. This is what I see in the debugger:

App ID: 268786683219628 : Noe Valley Town Square
    User ID: 582604090 : Carmen
    Issued: Unknown
Expires: 1337907600 (in about an hour)
    Valid: True
    Origin: Web
    Scopes: create_note manage_pages photo_upload publish_actions publish_stream read_stream share_item status_update user_groups video_upload

I have checked the migration settings in the advanced tab many times, and tried to mirror them as closely as possible to the settings shown in your blog post of May 19. Here are my settings:

    Stream post URL security: disabled
    Remove offline_access permission: enabled
    Timezone-less events: enabled
Forces use of login secret for auth.login: disabled
    Enhanced Auth Dialog: enabled
    Page Hours Format: disabled
    Batch API Exceptions Format: disabled
    July 2012 Breaking Changes: enabled
    Include Checkins with Statuses: enabled
    August 2012 Breaking Changes: enabled

If you could shed any light on this, I would be most grateful, as I’m pulling my hair out. Another note – I’m publishing to a Facebook group, if that make any difference.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts,
    -carmen

Thanks for the thorough info Carmen – indeed it looks like you are still getting “short lived” tokens despite correctly having the “Remove offline_access permission” enabled.

Have you tried regenerating the access token using a new browser or “private” mode? Seems like Facebook may recognize cookies and therefore send the token unchanged, where if you use a new browser (one with no Facebook cookies) you might get a new one.

Group publishing shouldn’t make any impact, as that uses the user’s token anyway.

Thank you for your quick response. Whatever was causing the regeneration of the same “short-lived” access token was quite “stuck” – none of the obvious remedies would get rid of it.

As a last resort, I just deleted the Facebook application and recreated it, then the problem was solved. Luckily for me (and others!), you’ve organized things so that set-up is very straightforward, so recreating the FB application was no big deal.

Thank you again for your help.
