[Plugin: WP-Paginate] Pagination on category posts doesn't work

  • Pagination on category posts doesn’t work. IE, if on httx://site/downloads/ and you want to go to the next x amount of posts, you’re being send to httx://site/downloads/Page/2/ and get a 404 or a redirect to the page from where u clicked..

    i’ve read alot of similair problems, but not any good solutions. Can someone help?

    Out of the box, everything should work fine. If you are using a custom theme or have modified anything, I need to know that in order to answer these questions.

    If you are using a custom query, you have to make sure you are including the paged variable.

    same here.. installed as in instructions… shows first page, the 2nd page link …/page/2 just comes back to the first page?

    does it matter that there is hebrew [non-ascii chars] in the URL??

    I upgraded WP to 3.4.1 and it broke straight after the upgrade, even when using Twenty Eleven v1.3 theme

    For my installation I’ve narrowed it down to using permalinks set to: /%category%/%postname%

    which breaks pagination.

    If I use any of the built-in permalink settings it works fine.

    This is a shame, I’ll have to uninstall this plugin and find another method.

    or use another plugin to fix it!

    I tried a few different pagination plugins and functions but was getting the same result. Found this “Category pagination fix”, installed and activated an all is working nicely now.

    After banging my face off my desk for an hour I got it figured out. Its pretty stupid too.
    So Im running a ground up theme from scratch and WP 3.4.2 (incase you were wondering if this applies to your situation).

    So the underlying problem is that wordpress gets confused if the value of query_posts(‘posts_per_page=2’); and the value in “Reading” section in the backend are different.

    So heres what you do, get rid of the “posts_per_page” value and set that value in the back end to however many post excerpts you want to display on an archive/category page (yes it works with custom post types as well).
    Hope this helped somebody

    I should further specify. It works IF you are using a custom archive-your_custom_post_type.php file and not running a query and a loop on a page template.
