"Connection reset by peer" error when using any widget that calls an RSS feed

  • I have a WP multisite on a Ubuntu server, and when I use the “Incoming Links” widget, the “WordPress Blog” widget, the “Other WordPress News” widget, or the “RSS” widget, I get an error that says “RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Recv failure: Connection reset by peer”. When I use a bad link, I get a different error (“RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received”).

    I’ve been searching for hours for information about what could be wrong, to no avail. I’ve tried changing the timeout, restarting Apache, and turning off all of my plug-ins, but none of these things has worked.

    Does anyone know how to fix this, or even how to diagnose it? I’m out of ideas.
