Comments limited to a specific user role?

If your theme is calling the comment form like this in comments.php:

<?php comment_form(); ?>

You can change it to this so only users with the role “student” can comment:

<?php
if(is_user_logged_in() && current_user_can('student')) {
  comment_form();
}
?>

I will have to look under the hood.

Mine has:
<?php do_action('comment_form', $post->ID); ?>

Have you tried:

if(is_user_logged_in() && current_user_can('student')) {
  do_action('comment_form', $post->ID);
}
?>
