    Hi,

I just updated to wp 3.4 (and let me start off by saying I’m a complete newbie at this stuff!), but now I can’t access my dashboard via wp-admin. My site loads just fine, but when I try to access the dashboard I only get a white page. No warnings, no nothing.

    Please help! I’m clueless.

  • same here i just update

    @bluejeanbruises: Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

@brazucany: It is impolite and contrary to forum policy to interrupt another poster’s ongoing thread with a question of your own. Please post your own topic.

    sorry

I’m probably going to sound stupid for asking this, but if I do change to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming the folder of my current theme, will I be able to change it back? And if so, how do I do that? Do I just remove the “-old” once I’m able to access my dashboard the same way I reactivate the plugins folder via FTP?

And in terms of re-uploading all files and folders from a fresh download of WordPress, is that a download of wp 3.4?

I’m just worried about messing up my site!

Nothing to worry. Just do what Esmi told you to do. It will solve your problem. If not report back here.

but if I do change to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming the folder of my current theme, will I be able to change it back?

Yes – unless of course, re-activating that theme simply causes your site to crash again – which I assume you don’t want.

And if so, how do I do that?

It will still be listed in Appearance -> Themes as an installed theme.

Do I just remove the “-old” once I’m able to access my dashboard the same way I reactivate the plugins folder via FTP?

Yes – then re-activate the plugins one-by-one until you find the culprit.

is that a download of wp 3.4?

    Yes.

Okay, well, I tried all of the above, and now I can’t access anything. Neither my site nor the wp-admin login screen will load now.

Actually I managed to solve it after all! Thanks so much for your help, guys! ??

You are welcome. Mark it as resolved.

    And the problem was…?

I’m honestly not sure what it was, but once I exchanged all the files except wp-content for fresh ones via FTP, removed the .hold and -old from my plugin folder and theme, respectively, everything began working again. ??

Fairy ’nuff. ?? My first guess would that you got a bad download when you upgraded WordPress. Second guess: your plugins or theme was interfering with the upgrade process (which does happen sometimes).
