[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Installing NextGen in theme

Is it possible to include NextGen in part of the theme along with using different templates that come with it? I do not want to use shortcodes, instead I want to install it using PHP. I know other plugins allow you to do this, just not sure about this one… Any help would be appreciated ??
