How to move a widget from one theme to another

What are the steps to extract a custom widget from one theme and add it to a different theme?

I have a custom theme which I did not build but do own. I am needing to change themes however do still need a custom widget from my previous theme.

How hard is it to extract the widget and add it to the new theme?

What are the steps and files I need to do this?
