• When I set a featured image on a post, the thumbnails for those images on my main page look terrible – very blurry. I’ve tried using Regenerate Thumbnails and resetting the media settings (with and without ‘Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions’) but nothing seems to work. The images look equally as bad in both IE and Chrome.

The gallery images all look fine, as do those included in posts. The thumbnails attached to posted links (on other sites) look fine. It’s just the featured images on my main page.

    Take a look: https://jaytphoto.ca/

    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Howdy Jay,

Your theme is using the thumbnail version of the image, and the CSS for those images is specifying a larger width / height, so the browser is essentially upscaling the little thumbnails.

Do you know how to regenerate the thumbnails to 280px wide? They are currently 150px, being upscaled to 280.

Go to Settings > Media or something… that is where you can set the thumbnail size. Then do the “Regenerate Thumbnails” you mentioned, clear cache, and check it out.

Nice site. Let me know if this works out.
    Take care,

    Thanks for the help, Paul.

I adjusted the thumbnail size to 280 but, while that cleaned them up some, it made them look a bit stretched. Tried it with and without ‘Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions’.

All it took was a simple tweak: I adjusted the width to 420 and the height to 280, and made sure the crop was on. Now they look 1000x better. Check it out!

Oh yeah, i forgot thumbnails force to square or something.
Nice work… indeed, it looks Way better now.
    Nice site!
