• I have one article on my site that I need to edit and for the life of me I cannot. After hitting the update button I get a white screen and the edit fails. The weird thing is that it is just this post. I test edited older and newer posts with no problem. I disabled plugins. I even tried copying the post and attempting to publish it again. No go. I went over the text with a fine tooth comb and found no strange characters that would cause the edit to fail, except for the closing font tag appearing twice.

Here is the article, would appreciate any feedback.

  • Hi,
you can try to check your database and make sure you have no errors.
You can also edit the post content from the database but this shouldn’t become an habit.
Check the database first of all.
    Regards

An iframe that is in your site is causing the problem. Look at the report HERE and try to remove it. Possibly, the problem will be over. Otherwise it can be a case of possible infection.

    Also try

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

And maybe this will help: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/single-post-now-can-not-be-updated-or-edited?replies=21

@jnhghy Yeah, I fixed the database errors as well before I posted. When I tried to disable all my plugins at once and it didn’t work, I made that fix, which fixed the plugin issue but not my original problem of not being able to edit that one post.

@krishna Thank you. Removed the iframe (old ad network tag) and now my site is getting a clean bill of health. Unfortunately, still cannot edit that one post.

@keesiemeijer Switched over to default theme, still a no go.

I even tried copying the post and attempting to publish it again.

What happened ? how did you tried to copy the post? can you try to create the post again (without deleting the current one… )?

@jnhghy I put the original post in the trash (temporarily) and copied the content and attempted to post it again and got a white page. I copied the article from the text box and from the live page and nope, I get a white page when attempting to post it again, even with a new title.

Weird, I know…. and only with that post.

    ok,
I’d like you to try a weird step to this weird issue :), please change your permalink structure to the default one and post again …. (first try to save it modified… if that doesn’t work trash it and do it again)
    Hope this works ..
    Regards

Change my permalink structure! Isn’t that search engine suicide? I don’t know if I’m willing to do that for one post.

Not really, because it is just a step to solve your problem, and you can put back your current permalinks. Be assured it won’t affect you the way you fear.

If you had db issues it might have affected the permalink of the post(duplicated/in error entry) … i’m thinking at this because you are having the issue even if you try to trash/create again the post so … the error seems to come from the permalink from my thinking… search engines are crawling your site once a few days so it’s not a big deal to change your permalink settings for a few minutes while you make some test … as I said … the fastest way (probably not the best) to fix this is by going in the database, edit post_content and make the changes you want in the post straight in the database, it’s not a troubleshooting step but it will give you the correct post … as long as this issue was created by a malfunction in the database you shouldn’t worry about it in the future … also … do not forget to do regular backups of your database and site files.
Hope you will have this issue solved…
    Regards
