    Windows Server 2008 R2. IIS 7.0. WordPress 3.4.1.

I installed WordPress on my Windows Server 2008 using the Web Platform Installer. Everything went fine. But during the install it asks you to name the “application,” which I took the default of “wordpress.” The result was that in IIS an “application” showed up under my web site’s root directory called “wordpress.” All the WordPress stuff was placed in there by the install. Later I moved everything out of this subdirectory into the root directory and my site continues to work fine. However, the “wordpress” application icon still shows up under IIS under the web site (and before moving the files to the root I could explore this “application/folder” from IIS). Can I delete this application/folder from IIS now that everything has been moved to the web site’s root directory?

I was able to move all files to webroot and after a few glitches I was able to set the URLs in admin and now she works. I found that the best approach is when installing WordPress (from the Web Platform Installer) just give the application a blank name and a blank folder and all is installed to the root directory of the web site and works thereafter.
