I love your SM Sticky Featured Widget in combination with this plugin but it would be great if either this, or that plugin were able to disable sticky posts from being included in the front page’s loop.

That or make your sidebar plugin work off a custom category and make this plugin have a setting for toggling that category on/off.

Main thing I’m trying to avoid is having the sidebar be a mirror of what’s directly next to it in the blog roll.

disabling sticky pages on the front pages loop is a function of the theme, not a plugin. For example, the SM Sticky Featured widget was built to be used in conjunction with AppThemes ClassiPress. That theme does NOT push sticky items to the top of the loop. Its a simple setting, but this setting is something the theme typically controls, not the plugin.

If the theme has any sort of query function in it, adding the option you suggest would appear to just “not work” because the theme is going to override the plugins query.

Instead update your front-page.php (for pages) or home.php (for blogs) within your theme. Here is a link in the codex with sample code:

Just add the code to the top of your themes file (chosen from above) and make sure its inside the PHP wrapper -> <?php CODE HERE
