• I was wondering whether anyone knows of a plugin that will allow users to put in a specific code that will then take them to a specific URL. Allow me to expound: I am a wedding photographer, and currently my “Client Login” is a little rough – clients have to select their name from a list to be able to view the password protected page for their gallery. What I would like is a simple page where they can put in a specific, individually-assigned code that will serve dual purposes of being a link to their gallery, but also their password.

    i.e.
    1) Client gets assigned “wCc98a” as code
    2) Client goes to website
    3) Client enters individual code
    4) Client is taken to their gallery

I’m not sure if this exists for wordpress (I’ve seen it elsewhere), and I’m not even sure what this would be called. Any help would be much appreciated, and I’m not limited to free plugins.

  • Heya dinidh,

I’ve not seen anything quite as explicit as what you’re asking for in your post, but there are certainly some work around options, if you put your mind to it.

First, when you’re clients “log in” to your site to see their galleries, is there anything they are “doing” as a logged in member of the site?

If no, then they really don’t need to be added as actual WordPress users to the site, but you still want a way to control access for them to their gallery of photos, yes?

What if you used a plugin like “Pretty Link Lite” and manually assigned them their link:

    https://www.dinidh.tld/wCc98a

Of course that short link would take them to wherever you are posting their gallery images (https://www.dinidh.tld/James-photos/) where you could password protect (using the built in WordPress privacy functionality, wetting the password to “wCc98a”.

Might be some extra work for you, but short of there being something pre-built out there, I would imagine this could work for you.

Share whatever solution you come up with? Thanks.

    Cheers!

    Hi

    This plugin looks promising:
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/peters-login-redirect/

It works differently than what you requested. You set each client up as a new WordPress username with a password (I suggest status subscriber). On the plugin’s admin page you assign a URL that you want that specific username redirected to when that username logs in.

After installing the plugin, you will find its settings page under Dashboard / Settings / login/logout redirects

James, thanks for your response. I think I would probably end up just creating URLs from my hosting control panel if I went that route, but it’s definitely not a bad idea. You are correct in saying that the only thing I want “users” to do is view image galleries.

Stvwlf, that’s a very interesting plugin, and really not a bad solution for now. I would prefer to only have one input (access code) instead of a username and password, but that’s just me being picky (mixed with a little understanding of how family members of couples we shoot struggle with web stuff already)! Really though I do like the functionality of that plugin – it’s a contender!

Still open to suggestions, and of course I will update if I find anything myself!

You could definitely create the URLs in your hosting panel, but the nice thing about Pretty Link is that the plugin also has a host of metrics for you to see (how many clicks, etc.)

Coolness though. I’ll stay subscribed to this thread to see what you come up with!

    Cheers.

I may have found a paid solution: https://myproofs.co/index.php/my-proofs-plugin/

Specifically for photographers, this is exactly what I was thinking about. I can’t tell if it only works with zenfolio, or if there’s a way to send to any URL with a code. I’m going to download it and take a look. I also can’t tell if their pricing section applies to this WordPress plugin….hmmm…

Well, the above plugin isn’t going to work for me (product specific) but it is definitely the right kind of thing. The search continues!

    Any resolution to this dinidh?

I’m looking for the exact same thing but can’t find anything that works. Surely there must be someone who has made something?0

I will be using it the same way as dinidh. It’s just a way to keep the photos private from the general public. Clients don’t need any privileges other than being able to view the photos. I am looking for something that only requires a single “code” to gain access. I don’t want anything that requires the client to register and create a username since my clients will not be very keen with the computer.

    Blackcat,

I searched for a plugin, but never really found one that suited my liking.

I ended up creating a private page for each client, setting the password as the couple’s new shared last name.

A little clunky in terms of sheer page numbers on my page manager, but since they were excluded from the menu system it really wasn’t too much of a problem.

    Hope this helps!
