Fatal Error when upgrading to 3.4.1 But everything works?

  • I was on WP 3 – I used the automatic upgrade to 3.4.1

    This is what it said:

    Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-3.4.1.zip…
    Unpacking the update…
    Verifying the unpacked files…
    Installing the latest version…
    Upgrading database…
    WordPress updated successfully

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function self_admin_url() in /home/ellieapp/public_html/wp-admin/includes/update-core.php on line 698>>

    Everything seems to be working AOK … So I’m not sure what that error was/is and if I should be concerned??

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

    I appreciate you getting back to me …. The fix you are proposing is a little scary to me …. And I’m not sure why I need it?

    Everything on the blog is working AOK! So would you please explain why I would need to do this fix …

    It’s the initial basic troubleshooting needed to identify the source of the problems.

    Esmi, are those 3 points in our post to all be done, or are they alternatives?
    And if I were to do the “switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name”, would it preserve my custom widgets, header, etc, or do I have to do those all over again in Twenty Eleven?
