• So, I work at an office and they want me to learn wordpress so I can help create a template for a site. I am really good with computers; however, I have no experience with html and really bad at programming. I was also told not to use an FTP/download wordpress directly and to use the wordpress.com site. Also kind of limited with themes and all that since I’m working with the limited version.

Does anyone have any tips on how I could make the site look really good? I’m good with design and am an art-oriented person.

I just messed around with the dashboard today and kind of tested out the features to get familiar with the site. Is there any advice on things I could somehow upgrade, install, ways to upload gifs or modify and work with themes, pics, etc. in a way that will make the site aesthetically pleasing?

I almost think that it would be soooo easy if it was all like a big photoshop kind of outline where you could just cut and paste all the gifs, pics, etc. that you want into a page then right click and link to other pages and all that but I guess it’s not.

Any tips that would help? I browsed sites for tips and it was all either the basic stuff on the dashboard or advice on themes and things that I’d have to pay for, upgrade, download. I need advice that applies to the situation I’m in. Once again I’m using wordpress as a sitebuilder for an HVAC site and not as a blog (although I’m planning on that for personal use ;P).

    Thanks

Sorry for the double-post, but what I’m basically saying is if I had the right setup. I know even with no experience and a creative mind it would be easy. For example, I’d just download + FTP it, find the sickest and most detailed themes online rather than using the limited ones. Sure, I can work with what I have on here, but when you have those extra resources it becomes infinitely easier. The site kind of makes itself.

    to use the wordpress.com site

    please ask at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/

this forum here is for WordPress.org (the stuff you need to download and install …)
