• I’m an inexperienced developer trying to put together a small commercial site using WordPress as a CMS. I’ve spent hours trying to find a simple, up to date plugin for playing videos, mp4, .mov, .avi or even .wmv, although I’ve found almost nothing that mentions wmv. The client is shooting his own product videos (about 20 total on the site). The videos will be uploaded to the self-hosted server. Most plugins I’ve found are either pre 3.4.1, (like 3.1 or earlier) play only flash video or play videos from YouTube, Vimeo or other video hosting sites.

  • Try this:
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/vipers-video-quicktags/

It works with self hosted video files as well as youtube / vimeo and others

    Thanks…

Unfortunately the plugin discourages use for Generic Video Files and Quicktime as outlined below:

    Generic Video File
This part of the plugin is fairly buggy as embedding video files is complex.
Consider trying TinyMCE’s native video embedder instead. Why?

Embedding Quiktime and other regular video files is a major pain … and it’s incredibly hard to get it to work in all browsers and operating systems. I strongly suggest converting the video to Flash Video format or even H.264 format and then using the Flash Video (FLV) embed type. There are free converters out there for both formats and doing so will create a much better experience for your visitors.
