Create replicated websites (same content, plugin, etc.)

  • We rent motor bikes and have packages that our travel agents around the world promote to their customers. We would like to offer them an exact copy of a website that shows all the packages but have their individual heading with their contact information.

    They will have a link from their travel agent website to this replicated site.

    I don’t need to make it search engine friendly because we already have another website that is search engine friendly. And these replicated websites only serve as information tools for customers of those travel agents.

    I want to be able to create content and it’s automatically changed on all websites.

    The websites could have the name travelagentxkm.motorebikes.com and the other travel agent would have traveltour.motorbikes.com, etc.

    How can I make this happen?

    If the packages are all the same, why not save yourself the time and shenanigans and just point all your children site to the parent site with that information?

    Make all the ‘same’ pages on the main site.

    Link to them from the children ?? Either in a menu or however you want.

    I don’t know how to do that. It may be very simple but I have no idea how to do that. I’ve been surfing in there for clues and nothing enlightning. I searched YouTube for tutorials but can’t find anything on how to do that.

    Also, is there a way to make the modifications/add a new page or post in one location and all the children are automatically updated or do I have to go to each individual children to add the new page to the menu for example?

    You can create the page on any site you like, but when you insert the reference in the menu, use the URL as though it were an external link.

    If you wish to replicate this across multiple site within your network, you’ll need a plugin. I use one called Network Menus. This takes the main menu from the root site and replicates it in the first menu spot on all child sites. If you want to customize all of your child site menus and have just this ONE ITEM in common, I am not aware of a way to do that.

    There really isn’t :/ It’s not the ‘use case’ for WP Multisite (in fact, I’m 90% sure that the various ‘menus’ you see as the same on all the make.www.ads-software.com sites, which are indeed using MS, are hard coded into the theme)

    I concur. I have had to do that in several of our sites. We do have a use for adding singular elements in a non-global fashion to various sites and there were too many variables to control to make writing a plugin worthwhile. It was much easier to just hardcode our theme.

    I want the entire menu the same.

    I think what you proposed I do with the Network Menus plugin it will work. I tested it and it seems to be working fine.

    You are very welcome. A few points to keep in mind when using the Network Menus:

    1. Every site must have a Primary Menu selected. It doesn’t have to contain anything, but in the Menus section, have something created and selected. The root blog menu will override that one.
    2. Some themes include their own default category or other style menus in those areas and they too are overridden.
    3. Since the Network Menu is replicated across the entire network, if you put in menu content that is local to the blog (pages, posts) it will be broken when you click on that menu item from another blog. For this reason, link to URLs instead of local content. The only exception to this is if you want to link to something that will exist in each site with the exact same name.
    4. Support the plugin developers ?? The two behind that plugin write several other high quality plugins and provide a lot of support to the community. [I’m a big proponent of financially supporting code that makes your life easier]

    I’ve been working around this for a month now and here’s what I really want to do. Maybe there’s an easier way to do it…

    I want to instantly create a new user (or affiliate) and offer them the exact same look and feel of the main website, same content, same plugins, pictures, everything. All I want is that their name appear at the top with their contact info. The Capture form plugin will send the results to their address and not mine. And the Contact Us page will be their address. All the rest is the same.

    I found this plugin https://wpebooks.com/replicator/ that replicates my site but if I make changes (a picture or template), I have to change all individual sites. And I will have a few hundreds of those replicated websites.

    The Network Menu if fine for the content posts and pages but not the rest.

    Any suggestion?
