• I have a network that consists of two blogs with their own domain name that are using a third domain as the network admin. (Not sure if I’m stating that correctly) They’re all on one hosting account (FatCow).

DomainOne.com/wp-login/php is where I login to administer my other domains, DomainTwo.com and DomainThree.com.

I need to transfer DomainOne.com to someone else.

How do I either remove DomainTwo and DomainThree, keeping them intact, or change DomainOne to another?

If we could use extreme dummy speak, that would be great. Thanks so much.

  • If I understand your problem correctly, you are going to try and change the domain/URL for your MultiSite install. The steps are outlined here, scroll down to “Moving WordPress MultiSite”. Unfortunately there isn’t just a switch to flip, but there may be some scripts that others have written to modify the database entries as necessary.

    Thanks, John. ??

I was hoping there was another way to go about it. I’m really wishing I would have left them all separate now.

    Thank you again!

    Sorry, me again.

Would I be able to export the blogs that I added to the network and then just delete the network? Would they stay intact by exporting then importing them back to their own wp installs?

    Thank you for your patience.

Exporting the blogs only creates a text file that includes the text-based content, and references to media. If you create an export file you would need to have a new blog set up before the old one disappears or you would not be able to import images and whatnot. Also it does not export any configuration information for the original blog (theme, plugins, settings, widgets, etc….).

    So, worst case scenario:

    1. I import the individual blogs.
    2. Redo all of the plugins, themes, settings, etc.
    3. Upload the media again.

This is what I would have to do if I just deleted everything and redid it. Which is seriously where my frustration level is right now. LOL!

Thank you so much for sticking with me, John. I really appreciate it.

You could switch the main blog to Domain2’s content and then move the whole thing.

    https://halfelf.org/ebooks/wordpress-multisite-110/ – on page 79

In this case, I’d actually turn off domain mapping, make the switch, copy WP to domain2.com (or whatever), re-map domain3.

Then go back to domain1, switch BACK to domain1 as the main site, and then turn off Multisite.

It’s tricky, and it’d suck because there will be down time, but it’s possibly better than delete and rebuild.

I am going to give it a shot this way! I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Thank you so much!
