• A question for Developers?

When you develop a site for a client (who may or may not have an existing website), do you:

    1. Develop it on their server, in a sub-folder and move it up when you are ready to launch,
    2. Develop on your own server in a sub-folder and move across when you are ready to launch
    3. Develop locally on your desktop (Mac/Wintel) using tools like MAMP or Desktop Server and move across when you are ready to launch

I’m curious to know if there’s a best practice that can be recommended.

  • 4. Assuming this is for a complete site and not just a theme, develop it on their server, in a sub-folder and then re-configure WP to take over the root domain.

    Hello,

The method mentioned above is a definitely the best method as long as you are dealing with good clients and down payments.

The only reason I say this is sometimes I develop on my own server so the client does not have access to all the files and theme. Then once final payment is release then I move over.
