uploading image with existing filename on server

  • There are times when I’d like to upload the same image a 2nd time using the same filename–in other words replacing the first version of the image with a 2nd version.

    When I do this WP suggests an alternate name. If I want to replace the existing file (w/o creating two separate files) what would I do? I think I’ve tried eliminating the alternate name suggested & then clicked rename. But I still got 2 files. How would I end up with a single file (but the 2nd uploaded version)?

    If you want this functionality, I recommend using a more advanced image uploading/managing plugin.

    OK, what am I missing here? I see all these references to being able to upload images via the WordPress admin interface. Where is this? Some have referred to an “upload” tab. I don’t see that tab anywhere. I am using version 1.5.1.3 of WordPress. If someone could point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it. It’s really annoying trying to work with images in WordPress, so maybe I’m missing something. Thanks!

    First, upgrade to the latest version of WordPress — the version you’re using has security issues. Then go to Options -> Miscellaneous and enable file uploads. “Upload” should then appear in the very top list of menus.

    Although WordPress v2.0 comes out later this week, so you might as well wait for that which has a completely different (and WAY better) upload system.

    Thanks! I see it now. I’ll be upgrading to WP 2.0, but not until I test it out on another domain for a few weeks.
