• This is not really a WordPress issue, but since I have worked hard to create my website in WordPress, I am not sure where else to turn.

Recently I acquired a website from one of those website designer groups that provides “free” websites to allow someone to make money online. I have worked very hard to create my site using WordPress which I have never used before and have had a HUGE learning curve to surmount. My website is hosted by Brain Host and I bought a number of services to go with it, one of which is “Attracta”. I did several reports through Attracta and one of them was to see my listing on Google (and other browsers). When I looked at Google, I came across some sites that show who owns a particular website. Much to my horror, when I looked at the entries for my site, it was shown to be owned by some woman in Florida, thousands of miles from where I am.

I have contacted Brain Host, Attracta and the people from whom I bought the original site but I don’t know what else to do to correct the apparent problem. How could my website become the property of someone else?

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Did you register the domain name?

In order for me to get the domain name in the first place, I checked with GoDaddy and Brain Host to determine if the domain was available. Both of their title searches showed that it was available. Because of the program I chose to buy into, I went with Brain Host on their recommendation. I got the cadillac version of what Brain Hoest had to offer so I figured that they would do thatever is necessary to ensure that the domain was mine. If there is something else I was supposed to do, I am unaware of it.

    Thanks

Unless you registered the domain name yourself initially, I’m afraid you really don’t have any real options. My guess is that the package you bought into didn’t cover domain name registration but you’d have to take this up with Brain Host .

I already have a ticket submitted to Brain Host so I shall see what they have to say. Thank you for your input.

I used to have a .net from wordpress and let it expire. Now – a Japanese sex thing has taken the name of my shop….What the heck do I do to stop this as the domain name is the name of my gift shop…..

This has nothing to do with the original post so ideally this should be a new post.

Anyway, if you let your domain expire, then there’s not much you can do other than contact the current owner and see if they’re willing to sell it to you. Most likely, even if they are willing to sell, it won’t be at the low price you could’ve gotten it from a registrar.
