Cannot upload images in 2.0

  • If I try to upload something using the blog I get the following error message:

    Unable to create directory /www/htdocs/somename/wp-content/uploads/2005. Is /www/htdocs/somename/wp-content/uploads writable?

    I even created “uploads” and “2005” and manually changed their chmods to 774.
    It only works witch chmod 777, but this doesnt seem very secure, does it?

    I’m not sure what you mean with “owner”.

    The path is /www/htdocs/dertyp/wp-content/uploads/2005 and if Im logging into the account with an ftp the highest level I can browse is /www/htdocs/dertyp/

    Huhh.. that’s exactly my problem to. I can’t upload my images any more… becouse:

    Unable to create directory /home/virtual/site474/fst/var/www/html/wp-content/uploads. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    If you make the wp-content writable it should work.

    I has a chmod 755 already! Would chmod 777 not be a little insecure?!

    Ehh… And it does not work even with chmod 777:

    So what am I doing wrong?

    Don’t ask me, I’ll quote the main developer of WP:

    “Something being writable has nothing to do with security or permissions
    directly. “Writable” under a cgi enviroment like
    yahoo/textdrive/dreamhost means ONLY that user has access to write the
    files. Under mod_php it means the webserver needs access, which
    generally means 766 or above.”

    Ask the developers… as I said the quote above is from the main developer of WP.

    The developers are rarely posting here. Which is OK, they should develop ??
