Plugins not available in 2.0

Is the directory actually available? What does ftp/ssh/telnet indicate?

Yes it is. I placed a test php file in the directory and then used my browsers to point to and activate the test php file. The test php file returned/called and posted current PHP info.

I also deleted everything on the web site, started again from scratch and still I am not able to see any of the plugins.

Damn GoDaddy…

Change your Server to Linux and save yourself a lot of headaches.

Otto’s got the only right answer here.
It takes literally less than 30 seconds to switch to the linux server.

1. Login and go to My Account.

2. Click on Hosting Account List

3. In the Hosting Account list, click on yourdomain.com (the domain you want to switch hosting for). Be sure to click on the domain name and not “Open,” which will just open your Control Panel.

4. The box on the right will change to Hosting Account Details. Click on Switch Operating System, and it will give you some options.

5. Select your new plan (preferably the same priced plan, but the “other” option from the one you currently have – so as to save being charged) and click Continue, and you’re on your way!

Within a max of maybe 10 minutes, things will switch over and all will be well. I’ve had to do this for clients before who set themselves up on windows hosting with GoDaddy before contacting me first. ??

A note on “workarounds”: They’re never guaranteed permanent. Why mess with code deletions and all that, when you can do this in seconds with the hosting company? It’s not GoDaddy’s fault that you didn’t chose the proper operating system when you signed up. WP doesn’t work on windows hosting… period.

But I run WP on my own XP box with no problems. Apache, PHP, etc, but Windows XP nevertheless.

I’ll rephrase my statment: WP doesn’t work WELL on Windows hosting, without hacks, “workarounds”, and other such things.
And it really hates GoDaddy’s Windows servers, to boot.

I kind of get defensive on behalf of GoDaddy though. I have no affiliation with them other than I use them for every single site I possibly can, and have done so for 10 years, and have really never had any problems (with the exception of about 30 mins of downtime about 4 years ago). But I see people bashing GoDaddy all over these forums, and it’s always a matter of something so simple, like checking which hosting plan you’re on, you know?

Bah. Anyway. The solution’s up there, step by step. Hopefully people now and in the future will find it helpful. ??

Yup. I run wp on my winXP Pro boxes too, using xampp. It really does depend on the host/server setup/apache, php, mysql settings. One size does NOT fit all with “WP doesn’t work on windows hosting… period.”

As with most flatline statements, there’s a lot missing backend there.

Must have posted while I was composing. *shrug* I was simply agreeing with Otto.

No need to get defensive over godaddy; they simply aren’t for everyone. It’s nice you’ve had such good luck with them; you’re the only person I know of who has however.

Well, I’d provide names and numbers if I had their permission, but I know a lot of people who are happy with them – all my clients and friends. ??
